June 1940. France is collapsing under the onslaught of the German invasion, but Brigadier General Charles de Gaulle refuses to admit defeat. Leaving the country together with Geoffroy Chaudron de Courcelles, he makes his way to London and tries to convince Winston Churchill that France continues to fight — even without a government, an army, or broad support. While de Gaulle is gradually building the Free France movement, in occupied Paris, the young Fernand Bonnier de La Chapelle and Livia embark on the path of resistance.
