When housewife Yoshie and her husband Tadahiko lose their five-year-old daughter Mei in an accident, they are overcome with grief. One day, Yoshie finds a doll at the market that looks remarkably like their deceased daughter, and she decides to buy it. She begins to treat the doll with maternal care and gradually returns to life, but when a new daughter, Mai, is born to the family, the doll is forgotten. Soon, strange and frightening events begin to unfold around the doll.
