The timid and gloomy pianist Kaoru, who suffers from frequent panic attacks, transfers to a new school and meets the sweet Riko and the local eccentric hooligan Sentaro, who is crazy about jazz and drums. Together, the guys gradually start putting together their own jazz band in the back room of a record store.
