At the age of eight, Marta leads a life full of worries that are far from childish. The only relative nearby is her grandfather, who needs supervision more than his granddaughter does. To avoid ending up in an orphanage, Marta hides the truth from her teacher, the local police officer, and her glamorous neighbor, and asks a failed actor to pretend to be her father. Her Kazan relatives come to the rescue in the person of the adventurer Marat. The only thing on the brazen young man’s mind is not taking care of the girl, but her Moscow apartment.
